Title:

Diversity of MIMO multihop channels with linear relaying

Abstract:

In this talk, we consider slow fading single-source single-destination relay channels with multi-antenna terminals. The source signal arrives at the destination via N hops through N-1 layers of relays. We are particularly interested in the scenario where the relays are dumb and only perform linear processing on the received signal. We analyze the diversity of such channels with fixed network size at high SNR based on the outage formulation. It is shown that, even with the simple linear schemes that we propose, the optimal diversity-multiplexing tradeoff can be achieved in some non-trivial scenarios. Our results are closely related to the near-zero behavior of the singular values of the product of Gaussian matrices.
